Men’s Club: June 2022 News

Scholarship Winners—The Men’s Club Scholarship Committee has announced the 2022 recipients of the Men’s Club
$1000 scholarships: Britney Valerie Benitez who plans to major in neuroscience and Amrita Singh who plans to major in journalism. Both attended Dana Hills High School and both live with their respective families in Laguna Niguel. They received their awards at the May 17 Men’s Club Break- fast, accompanied by several family members. The winners were articulate and both offered inspiring comments about their future plans. Nicely done, ladies.
Guest Speaker—We also heard from guest speaker, Jay Styles, General Manager of the great Wind and Sea Restaurant in Dana Point Harbor. He said, with six thousand employees over the 50-year life of the restaurant, some current employees have both moms and dads who worked at Wind and Sea back in the day, and three million Mai Tais have been served! Pretty amazing. This is a fine restaurant with a strong future, except … Some of Mr. Style’s comments were a bit dis- concerting. Although he is one of the most important operators and biggest employers in the Harbor, Styles is unsure of what the future holds for Wind and Sea, and for all the other opera- tors. He attributes this lack of clarity to the DP Harbor Partners, which was awarded the management contract for the harbor modernization by the landlord, Orange County, in 2018. Many interested parties are in a holding pattern, not sure about lease renewals, construction plans, or possible new tenants. Hope- fully, some clarity will emerge soon.
Club Events—Planning is underway for many popular Men’s Club events coming up. The Pancake Breakfast on 4th of July, Oktoberfest in October, and a joint event with the NS Women’s Club in December. Stay tuned for more details.
