Emergency Preparedness: June 2020

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
As you read this
June edition, the Coronavirus news might not have improved much in the health or economic outlook.
BUT, living here in the Shores does have some positive points we should be thank- ful for—so let’s think on those for a moment.
■ In our gated community we have a reduced exposure to the foot and vehicle traffic that exists in more pub- lic places. We can walk our streets and greenbelts with greater safety, social distancing, and less auto- mobile activity.
■ AND, very few environments along the Pacific Coast have the unique bluff and coastal access we do, allow- ing recreation and proximity to the beach and ocean.

■ As restrictions open up, our Community Center is per- fect for social activities, recreational pursuits, or just plain R and R.
■ AND, look at our support group—the Niguel Shores management, office staff, maintenance team, gate and patrol service, landscape crew, and the NSCA Board made up of our own neighbors volunteering to run our community in the most efficient and beneficial way. Where am I going with this? Since the pandemic
started, we have likely felt more frustrated or annoyed these days. But focusing on the positive helps us bet- ter absorb the negative. Just look around in the Niguel Shores environment and
appreciate what we have.
Reminding ourselves what we’re GRATEFUL for is one of the most powerful ways we can boost what mental health experts call the psychologi- cal immune system. This keeps us mentally resilient.
Experts recommend focusing on what you can con- trol. Acknowledge that life is tough right now and don’t beat yourself up for feeling bad. Research shows that GRATITUDE is a huge psychological booster. People who practice being GRATEFUL report significantly higher levels of happiness and well-being than those who do not.
SMILE. Say THANK YOU! Focus on the future. Think of the reunions and gatherings awaiting us with family and friends. Imagine how good it will feel to get back to things we took for granted not so long ago.
GRATITUDE and APPRECIATION help us realize things are not as bad as we make them out to be initially. GRATITUDE makes us RESILENT!
Just go outside in your neighborhood or walk down to our bluff, and SMILE, and say THANK YOU.
