In a change from their Really Serious Book Club designation, the Semi-Serious Book Club met Tuesday, September 28\ at the Clubhouse to discuss The Guarded Gate by Daniel Okrent. The book tells the history of the Eugenic Movement and the passage of immigration laws in the 1920s to keep out those not “Nordic,” imposing strict quotas on immigration to the United States from southern and eastern European countries based on nationality.
