DP Library News: June 2016 News

The Library is excited to be offering once again their Summer Reading Challenge, Read for the Win, starting on June 20 through August 1. Summer will be chalked full of exciting programs for children, teens, families, and adults. They will be having some amazing performers, starting with Dancing Tehani on June 22, with two programs— one for families at 2 p.m. and one for adults at 6 p.m. The following week, June 29, children and families can learn how to create their own balloon animals with Mr. Twister.
The Dana Point Library is getting a New Look The Friends of the Dana Point Library Bookstore will be closed from May 27 until June 13 because the library is getting a facelift with new Cement Board Siding.
There will be instruction materials, trucks, and scaffolding in the parking lot and dust while the work is being done. The bookstore cannot take book donations during this period.
The library will open after the termite tenting is done from that Friday, May 27 until the following Tuesday, May 31. Patrons will use the side door, as the front door will be unavailable and the parking will be very limited.
The Friends and librarians are excited with the changes being made and hope to see you at the library and bookstore after the work is completed.

The following is a list of programs and events for June 2016. All events held in the Community Room unless otherwise noted. Walk-ins welcome.
Toddler and Preschool:
Bouncing Babies. Thursday, June 23 and 30, 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. This event is for babies 18 months or younger accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
Children All Ages: The following events are for children of all ages with a parent or caregiver.
Sunshine Readers Storytime. Tuesdays, June 21 and 28, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Join the Sunshine Readers of the National Charity League for energetic and entertaining stories for all ages at this family storytime. A cookie and water is provided at the end.
Family Gaming. Thursday, June 23 and 30, 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Compete in traditional board games, and earn new video games.
Special Family Storytime: Saturday, June 18, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Children and families are welcome to join us for stories songs, crafts and activities.
Pancakes and PJs: Saturday, June 25, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wake up and join Mrs. Kasey in her PJs as she reads fun stories and has a delicious brunch of pancakes and fruit. Wear PJs.
Mr. Twister: Wednesday, June 29, 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Learn to make you own Balloon Animals with Mr. Twister, the Balloon Man. You’ll get a bang out of this class. Space is limited. Tickets will be available 15 minutes prior to starting.
PJ Storytime: Monday, June 27, 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wearing PJs optional.
Children School Age:
Homework Help. Wednesday, June 1, 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This event is for students grades K-8 for free homework assistance from high school tutors on a first come, first served basis
Read to a Dog. Wednesday, June 1, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. and Tuesday, June 21, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. This event is for beginning readers and is held in the Children’s Area.
Tween, Teen: Teen Time, Monday, June 13, 20 and 27, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Ages 12-17. Participate in a different workshop every week.
Adults
Tea Time Book Club, Monday, June 27, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for tea and book chats. Bring your favorite cup for tea.
Baila with Tehani: Wednesday, June 22, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Learn a rich history with fascinating origins while dancing the steps of popular Latin American dances. Come ready to dance and have fun. Held in the Library Meeting Room, it is limited to the first 70 people. Tickets will be available 15 minutes prior to starting.
