Men’s Club: December 2023

MEN’S CLUB
Our first meeting of November occurred on the
seventh, a fine day for camaraderie and information exchange—not to mention a fine breakfast to start the day. After alerting those present to the need for volun- teers with bartending experience to step forward for our big Thursday, December 14 Holiday Party with the Niguel Shores Women’s Club (ok, boys, not all at once), we were introduced to our guest speaker for the day, Mar- garita Wilkinson. Ms. Wilkinson is running for the U.S. Congressional 49th District seat currently held by Rep. Mike Levin. Margarita is a formidable candidate, with a personal history that demonstrates Margarita’s abil- ity to rise to the occasion. Born south of the border and immigrating to the U.S. at a young age with her single mother, Margarita has modeled a life of achievement and success in many different pursuits, including academ- ics, the broadcasting industry, and family life. Margarita and her husband Philip and their four kids live in nearby Del Mar. Now public service has her attention, and she is off to a good start. Lots of people think so. Margarita is endorsed by prominent citizens of the Southland, includ- ing former San Juan Cap Mayor Brian Maryott, former Supervisor Kristin Gaspar, and former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer. Margarita is an effective and articulate speaker. She enjoyed an enthusiastic response from the assembled Men’s Club members.

On November 21, our guest speaker VP Franck Bideau from Exchange Resources Inc. had the role of educating the members on 1031 exchanges, a popular method that allows property swaps with the deferral of capital gains taxes. That’s defer, not evade. Exchange Resources, Inc is a recognized leader in these matters with offices in San Diego and Mission Viejo.

Our final monthly meeting of this year will take place on December 5. It will be a Humdinger. Our members, with their spouses and partners as invited guests, will be entertained by the tuneful and harmonious Dana Hills High School Choir. This annual event is always a hit with all in attendance. 2023 will be no exception. We will also take a few minutes, led by our President, Geoff Dunlevie, to recognize and reward the fine work and ongoing contribution to the quality of life in Niguel Shores made possible by our highly regarded Maintenance Staff, George Cooley, Dave Smith, Tom Shimkus, Ray Russomano and Jason Lelli. Thank you, gentlemen, for your fine work.

Our first meeting of the New Year is on January 16, 2024. Per the Men’s Club by laws, this first meeting of 2024 is designated as the Annual Membership Meeting. This is the time we will be seeking volunteers to step up for Board and other lead- ership positions, and the process of nominating and electing / re-electing Board members for the coming year commences. The annual $25 membership fee also becomes due.

Now don’t forget, on the evening of December 14, we will join our friends from the Women’s Club to celebrate the holidays and the good luck we all share by living where we do. All are looking forward to this big social event.
If you are not yet a member of the Niguel Shores Men’s Club, start 2024 off right by joining. I think you will find the friendly and open character of our gatherings to be worth- while, informative, and pleasant all around.
