Men’s Club: November News 2022

As the 2022 election season gets into high gear, the Men’s Club has enjoyed the opportunity to hear from, and direct questions to many of the candidates seeking or already holding public office. We heard from Brian Maryott, former Mayor of San Juan Capistrano and current candidate for Congress. We also heard from Dana Point officials Roy Dohner and John Gabbard at our first meeting in October (both happen to be esteemed members of our Club). At our second October meeting we got to know candidates Janet Nguyen, Laurie Davies, and Chris Duncan. These appearances were brief and to the point, but useful in giving us local voters the opportunity to put a name with a face, and to size up the candidates who have so much control over our daily lives if they are elected.

For many of us in the Men’s Club—though not all—this exposure to candidates and to local officials, like those running the Dana Point desalination project or the Dana Point Historical Society, is an important benefit of our Men’s Club
membership.

Oktoberfest Success
But, a guy’s got to have a little fun too, right? Here’s a member’s report on what over 100 of our fellow members, friends, and neighbors were up to on a Saturday night last month:

“The Men’s Club, under Munich Mayor-for-a-Night Eric Eckes and his wife, Margi, along with generous volunteer support, held their annual Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday, October 8. This year’s celebration, as with past years, was a sell-out. The Johnsonville brats, donated by NS resi- dent Howard Gasser, were grilled to perfection by Al Glatt and Heinz Hofmann. Linda Herman and her accordion provided the entertainment. Fun was everywhere, especially when residents filled the dance floor for the Chicken Dance.” Wow! What a hoot! And there’s more fun to come!

Join Us
The Men’s club is looking forward to year-end parties, including a performance by the Dana Hills High School Choir. We also have events coming up to recognize the contribution of staff to the success of our community, and to encourage participation in Men’s Club leadership. So, it’s as good a time as any to get involved, if you are not already.

If interested in becoming a Men’s Club member, please join us for a complimentary breakfast at one of our twice-monthly meetings. We’d love to meet you. Breakfast is on us! We welcome all interested parties.

See you at our next meetings, Tuesday, November 1 and 15 at 0800h. Be sure to ask me about the significance of “76 Trombones” when you are there on that day.
