Garden Club: May 2022

Our next meeting is on Monday, May 16 at 11:00 a.m. in the Clubhouse. Kevin Alison from the Tree Of Life Nursery will speak about the importance of the identity and choice of California Native Plants for our gardens during a drought. The Tree of Life Nursery is singularly passionate about California Native Plants and is well worth a visit. Check out their website californianativeplants.com for location, hours, workshops, and special events.

In addition, one can visit South Coast Farm, located at the Tree of Life Nursery, They offer seasonal Fruit and Veggie U-Pick. Call (949) 661-9381 for details. Their fresh produce is delivered daily to their Farm Stand in Dana Point, at 24040 Camino Del Avion. One can’t find fresher produce than this!

Our highly successful Plant Sale took place in March. We extend grateful thanks to the generous donors from local nurseries and to the Garden Club members who worked tirelessly at the event. This is Garden Club’s major fundraising project, and proceeds will enable the club to contribute toward the Garden Club District’s Scholarship for horticultural students at Saddleback College. In addition, funding will go to Vera’s Garden in Orange County helping to heal abused women, and to the Penny Pines reforestation of burned areas of our national forests.

April Garden Club activities involved field trips to Hortense Miller Garden in Laguna Beach and a tour and lunch at Sherman Gardens in Corona del Mar—both spec- tacular and different venues.

At our May 16 meeting, we will be signing up for the end- of-year Garden Club Barbecue/Luncheon at the Bluff on June 20.
