Page Turners Book Club: Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger

This month’s reading by Page Turners is Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger, “a respected mystery writer who turns his attention to the biggest mystery of all—God.”
Ordinary Grace (2013) is the author’s first stand-alone novel and referred to by the publisher as “elegiac, evocative … a resonant tale of fury, guilt, and redemption.” In short it is the story of a 13-year-old boy and his family and the fateful summer when his world seemed to be falling apart. The boy’s name is Frank and that summer “he finds himself thrust into an adult world full of secrets, lies, adultery, and betrayal, suddenly called upon to demonstrate a maturity and gumption beyond his years.” Should make for a good group discussion!
Spring finds the members of the book club considering books to be read next year. We spend April and May suggest- ing and researching the books suggested, and then in June we vote for nine books that will be our selections for next year. Page Turners follows the “traditional school year calendar,” September through June. Perhaps this came about when the group was first started by Niguel Shores women more than 35 years ago and they all had children in school—just a thought. Anyway that has stayed as our “reading year.”
Page Turners consists of three groups. One meets the fourth Monday afternoon of the month and the other two meet the fourth Thursday afternoon of the month. For information on the Thursday groups contact Steve and Ann Morris at samwrsi@cox.net, and for the Monday group contact Frances at fozimec@cox.net.
