Men’s Club: May 2023

April Recap—On April 4 at the usual 0800h starting time, the Men’s Club assembled for a fine hot breakfast. After chatting with neighbors and catching up on the latest scuttlebutt, (as they say in the Navy), the assembled members pledged allegiance to Old Glory. We then turned our attention for the rest of the hour to our guest speaker for the day, local travel guru, cruise planner, and destination consultant, Caroline Swift. “Travel Is Back and the World is Wide Open! Where To Next?” was her headline. There is not much about the world of travel that Caroline can- not speak about authoritatively, but this day Caroline focused her remarks on three specific travel topics: River Cruising, Independent Italy, and Travel Insurance. Caroline supported the presentation with photo slides and spiced it with anecdotes about actual travel perils and pleasures. She held the group’s attention and stayed busy answering many questions from the apparently travel-ready assembly. Here’s a relevant factoid: Repatriating an illness-struck traveler from abroad to the U.S. for medical attention can cost upwards of $500,000. Does that catch your attention? Talk to Caroline about the right travel insurance coverage before your next overseas adventure. You can reach her at sweetcarolinetravel.com or (949) 363-0430.
For the April 18 meeting we welcomed Orange County Supervisor, Katrina Foley. Supervisor Foley has been busy lately organizing a response to the weather-related landslides in San Clemente, the threat to rail lines in the area, and the homeless problem.
May Meetings—It seems to be the season for political dialogue. Our guest speaker for May 2 is Congressman Mike Levin filling us in on all that affects our area. That should be interesting. Our speaker for May 16 has not yet been announced. But don’t let that deter you. History tells us our speaker will be somebody interesting and relevant to our lives here in paradise.
Join Us for Breakfast—The Men’s Club is about sup- porting our community, getting to know our neighbors, and staying tuned in to the events and activities in the larger Niguel Shores/Dana Point/Orange County community. So, if you are not yet a member, come join us for a complimentary breakfast at 0800h on the first and/or third Tuesday of the month. We’d like to meet you, and we think you will like what you see.
