Landscape Chemical Use in Niguel Shores
Some homeowners may have seen recent news reports regarding concerns about landscape chemical use in a nearby community. While there is currently no evidence that similar issues exist in Niguel Shores, your Board of Directors is taking proactive steps to review our landscaping practices.
Effective July 24, the Board has:
- Temporarily paused the application of landscape chemicals in the common areas while we conducted our review.
- Directed Harvest Landscape to prepare a report detailing the landscape chemicals used in Niguel Shores and their application practices. This report is available to any homeowner upon request.
- Subsequently directed Harvest to discontinue use of glyphosate-based products as a precautionary measure.
- Continued to monitor developments related to the Ladera Ranch investigation to determine whether any findings have relevance to Niguel Shores.
The Board is committed to making decisions based on facts and sound information. We will keep homeowners informed as our review progresses and communicate additional actions.

A few months ago, members raised concerns to the Board concerning spraying of pesticides and herbicides by Harvest Landscaping onto grass areas in the community.
The Board met with Harvest and has developed a protocol to properly apply these chemicals on slopes and in planters. For a 60-day trial, Harvest will spray slopes and planters between 1:00 pm to 3:00 p.m. only. They have provided NSCA with information to provide to residents prior to spraying, and extensive posting will be placed around the areas before being spraying. The technicians will be supervised by Harvest management, trained in chemical-applications, and the areas will be monitored until the chemicals have fully dried.
