City of Dana Point & Waldorf Hotel Teaming up to Improve Sea Terrace Dog Fun Zone
Many Niguel Shores residents love walking their dogs and have also discussed the need for a nice dog park close by. Well, that dream may be closer than you think. Our own Brian Porter reached out to City of Dana Point Council Member Mike Frost for guidance on how to bring the existing dog park behind the library at Sea Terrace Park up to par with dog parks in other communities throughout southern California.
Brian subsequently met with the City Manager, Assistant City Manager and Recreation Coordinator and shared photos to illustrate the current conditions and discuss proposed improvements. Two of the main discussion points were the sand surface of the park, and the lack of a more open, inviting space – both of which were well received by the City.
Another important note is that this park, including the dog park area, is currently maintained by the Waldorf Hotel—the only park in all of Dana Point that is not maintained by the City. And they too were interested in improving the park. So, between the City and the Waldorf, no special fundraising or new monies are required; improvements can be funded through the City’s annual improvement fees – and maybe as soon as this year!
Which brings us to today: the City followed up with Brian to share that they have launched a survey of surrounding communities to gather broader input, and as one of the closest communities of scale in the area, they want Niguel Shores residents to have a voice in the process.
