This month we are reading Gary
Paulsen’s Winterdance: The Fine Mad-ness of Running the Iditarod which has been described as “an
incredible sled-dog race through the Alaskan wilderness and a stunning journey
of discovery and survival.” Publisher’s Weekly writes, “Fueled by a passion for running dogs, Gary
Paulsen entered … the eleven-hundred-
and-eight-mile race through the Alaskan wilderness,” and “for seventeen days, he and his team of
dogs endured blinding wind, snowstorms, frostbite, dog fights, moose attacks, sleeplessness,
hallucinations—and the relentless push to go on. Winterdance is the enthralling account told by the
‘best author of man-against-nature adventures writing today.’”
June 25 is the bi-annual joint meeting of all three groups of the book club. At 1:00 p.m. in the
Clubhouse, we will socialize, enjoy homemade snacks, and discuss this month’s book. It is also the
exciting day the final nine books that we will read in the upcoming club year are revealed. Our
members have been suggesting books for consideration and all members have voted for their nine
favorites, to be revealed at this joint meeting.
If you would like more information about the book club you can contact one of the coordinators,
Lisa Buchner at lisabuchner47@gmail.com, Steve and Ann Morris at samwrsi@cox.net, or myself at
fozimec@cox.net. We always welcome new members.
