Garden Club: June 2026

May was non-stop for the Garden Club!
We kicked off the month with the annual Plant Sale which was a huge success with a 33% increase in
sales over 2025. As a registered non-profit, the Garden Club uses proceeds from the sale to help
support our community and environmental efforts, including a horticulture scholarship at Saddleback
College, the Penny Pines Reforestation Program, sustainable agriculture initiatives at The Ecology
Center, and other conservation-focused nonprofits across California.

Huge thanks to the community who turned out in numbers to shop, and to the generosity and teamwork of our Garden Club members, the NS Maintenance
Team, and the following local vendors, who contributed phenomenal plants and flowers this year:

■ Albertson’s
■ Costco
■ Dana Point Nursery
■ Devil Mountain Nursery
■ Harvest Landscaping

■ Home Depot
■ Plant Dept
■ Seaside Growers
■ Trader Joe’s

Our Flower Shop pop-up on the patio—a first—was very well received and we’re already planning other
new ideas for next year’s sale.
At the May meeting, members were entertained by Ruben Flores, owner of Laguna Nursery &
Visionscape, a high energy creator of imaginative spaces around the world. He encouraged us to
create small ‘moments’ in your garden that bring you joy; plan a view from each window of your
home; use low growing herbs like thyme and oregano between steppingstones for therapeutic scent;
and keep things fresh by reinventing your garden from time to time in simple ways.
Sound interesting? Join the Garden Club! Sign-up forms are in the Niguel Shores office.
