Men’s Club: February 2024

On January 16, after a tasty breakfast prepped and served by the talented Staudenbaur/Wilson team, 2024 got off to a great start for Niguel Shores Men’s Club. More than 35 members were gathered for this official Annual Meeting, satisfying the requirement in our by-laws for a quorum to be present to conduct necessary annual business.
One agenda item was to nominate and elect leadership for the calendar year. I am pleased to report that the incumbent team of officers, all four of them, were nominated, seconded, and unanimously elected to serve again for 2024. Thanks to Geoff Dunlevie, John Yocca, Eric Eckes, and Yours Truly for another year of service to the Men’s Club.
Other business included discussion about Men’s Club meeting schedules. The intent is to increase membership, perhaps by moving one of our two monthly meetings to an after- noon “Happy Hour” once a month, or once a quarter. How bad could that be? The idea is to encourage more participation from younger members who may have conflicting work and/or family schedules during the morning breakfast hours. A small group was formed to study the options and return next meeting with logistical recommendations for the larger group to consider.
Another item of interest was the path forward for the Men’s Club annual scholarships. For years this program has been led very effectively by Club member Jon Cobain. Recently, Jon has indicated his desire to step down. We thank Jon for his many years of leadership and service to this important Club and community activity. We also view this as an opportunity to perhaps revamp our approach to academic scholarships. Men’s Club will soon distribute a survey document to all members to solicit thoughts and opinions about how to best organize and manage this popular scholarship program that has been associated for years with Niguel Shores Men’s Club.
Speaking of popular programs, we also took time to thank Club member Tim Williams for agreeing again to lead and organize the Men’s Club Annual 4th of July Pancake Breakfast. Tim did a great job running the show in 2023. We are confident he will so so again in 2024. Thank you, Tim.
So, lots of activity and exciting changes coming up for the Men’s Club. It’s time to get on board. We will meet next on February 6 at 8 a.m. in the Clubhouse. We hope to have new and returning members join us and be part of the Club’s future.
