Men’s Golf: New Years Update

A Happy New Year to all! Looking back, 2017 was a great year for themen’s golf group. In addition to our regular courses at Talega, Arroyo Trabuco, Tijeras Creek and San Juan Hills we had an outing at Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Beach—one of most beautiful and expensive courses in Orange County—where our leader Roy Dohner managed to get us a great rate of 1/2 the normal green fee.
On December 12 we held our annual end of year putting contest at Talega Golf Club. Talega did an outstanding job setting up a nine hole layout on their putting green that tested the ability of our best golfers. We had 26 golfers show up, and after the putt contest Talega had a great brunch set up for us where we awarded prizes.
The highlight of the event was the award for Golfer of the Year, which went to Bill Verbrugge,
a long time member of our club. He was presented with the “White Jacket.”
The Golfer of the Year gets to hold onto this beauty of a sports jacket for 12 months in which he has the opportunity to have his college or favorite spots team logo embroidered as a lasting memento of his award.
We start all over again on January 9 at Arroyo Trabuco, followed on January 16 at Talega, January 23 at Oak Creek, and finally on January 30 at Tijeras Creek.
