PageTurners Book Club: The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen

For the month of October, the Monday and Thursday afternoon Page Turner groups will be reading and discussing The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen—winner of the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction as well as six other awards.
The narrator, a communist double agent, is a “man of two minds,” a half-French, half-Vietnamese army captain who arranges to come to America after the Fall of Saigon and, while building a new life with other Vietnamese refugees in Los Angeles, is secretly reporting back to his communist superiors in Vietnam. This compelling book should make for lively discussion at upcoming meetings on Monday, October 23 and Thursday, October 26.
We also want to express our sadness at the passing of two long-time members of Page Turners, Diane Hearne and Ruth Levitan, whose astute observations and depth of understanding enlightened all our discussions. They will be greatly missed by everyone.
