Garden Club: Santiago Creek in Modjeska Canyon

The Garden Club went on a field trip to Helena Modjeska House and Garden on Wednesday, February\ 22. Members met in the Community parking lot at 9:00 a.m. to carpool to this event and brought a bag lunch to enjoy after the tour at the nearby Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary.
Tucked away amidst a live oak grove on the banks of Santiago Creek in Modjeska Canyon lies this century-old home of world renowned actress Madame Helena Modjeska.
Named for the grounds’ resemblance to the Forest of Arden in the Shakespearean play, As You Like It, Arden is designated a National Historic Landmark. A docent led tour of this historic house and gardens was well enjoyed by all in attendance.
The next meeting will be at noon on Monday, March 20, 2017 in the Clubhouse. Evelyn Weidner, owner of the Weidner Gardens in Encinitas will speak on General Gardening.
