The Oreo Book Club meeting was held at the home of Mike Harrod on June 18 where we discussed the book Last Child in the Woods, by Richard Love. The discussion was led by Diane Hearne and it was decided, in spite of the book’s recommendation, that we had enough tree houses in America to last us for a good time into the future. We also recommended against keeping goats as pets if you were going to make a meal of them later on. Some decided that nature was stronger than nurture and that our youth would soldier on in good stead regardless of poor parenting and the lack of tree houses. The next book to be reviewed will be The Golden Shore—California’s Love Affair with the Sea, by David Helvarg. Curt Swanson will host on July 16 at 1:30 p.m.
