Oreo Cookie Book Club – The Party is Over: How Republicans Went Crazy, Democrats Became Useless and the Middle Class Got Shafted, by Mike Lofgren, a republican

The Really Serious Oreo Book Club met on November 20 at the home of Barbara Milner. The revelation was revealed that rats preferred Oreo cookies to cocaine—it gave greater stimulation to their pleasure centers. Attending members ere polled and the results confirmed that preference.

We then discussed the book, The Party is Over: How republicans Went Crazy, Democrats Became Useless nd the Middle Class Got Shafted, by Mike Lofgren, a republican. The book gives a history and analysis of his Republican Party becoming the party of “No” and willing to sacrifice the good of our county to their narrow partisan interests. Some members thought a Parliamentary system would better serve the country; others felt that ways to eliminate the impact of money in politics would help. Others believed the effect of future demographics on elections would eventually make politics better.

Some felt that the better politics and legislation occurring in large cities and states was a hope for the future.

Rich Schwartz led the discussion. There will be no meeting in December. The January meeting will be held on the third Wednesday at the home of Mary Crowl, who will chair the discussion of the book, Why Nations Fail;

The Origins of Power, Prosperity and Poverty, by Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson.
