Page Turners – Black Swan by David Mitchell

Page Turners Book Club will de discussing Black Swan Green, by David Mitchell, a semi-autobiographical bildungsroman. It was published in April 2006 in the United States and in May 2006 in the United Kingdom.

The novel’s 13 chapters each represent one month from January 1982 through January 1983…in the life of a 13 year-old Worcestershire boy, Jason Taylor. The novel is written from Taylor’s perspective and employs many teen colloquialisms and popular culture references from early 1980s England. Mitchell has a speech disorder commonly referred to as stammering. “I’d probably still be avoiding the subject today had I not outed myself by writing a semi-autobiographical novel, Black Swan Green, narrated by a stammering 13 year old”.

The Monday groups will meet on November 18 and the Thursday group on November 21. Members will receive information regarding locations from the coordinators.

There are a few spots left for membership in the Monday afternoon group. For information contact Diane Hearne: Phearne4@cox.net or 661-6267.
