Oreo Book Club – March 2012

The Oreo Cookie Serious Book Club met on the 15th at the home of Phyllis Tezer to discuss the recent book by George Friedman, The Next Decade. Rich Schwartz led the discussion by citing the key points of the book that America, without intending to be so, is a de facto empire in the world because of its economic impact and military strength. Our country should act in a way to forestall competing alliances that might be inimical to our self-interest. Reverberation of an alliance between Germany and Russia were considered, as well as relations with China over influence in the Pacific region. The next meeting is on March 21 to discuss the book How We Decide by Jonah Lehrer.
